Elements: Art Direction, Design | HuffPost

In 2020, around the time everything changed, our HuffPost Visuals Team created a multimedia experience called, Black Hair Defined for HuffPost’s Black History Month rollout. In two short weeks, we created an interactive museum showcasing many hairstyles in all their beauty.

This project is not only near and dear to my heart, but it also marked a point where I could art direct on a larger scale. For the profiles, we split their each model’s time between a photoshoot (by the amazing Jessica Pettway) and a video shoot (led by Tyler Tronson), both of which I played a directing role. At the time, I’d been looking for an avenue to do some nice slow motion shots, so this turned out to be kismet. We even had merch!

In addition to those shoots, I chose the main typefaces, created a palette and custom gold textures, worked with LaVarro Jones who edited the slow motion shots for the museum, designed and provided the branding guidelines and wireframes to Isabella Carapella, who did a gorgeous job at bringing it all together in a tasteful, elegant way.
